the important jobs don't pay. ain't that a bitch? raising a kid, caring for an elder, selling fruit on a street corner, playing spanish guitar at the subway station. none of them pay, or pay much. that tells you something.

a poll just came out which shows that a majority of the american people don't trust muslim nations. perhaps this is because iran overthrew our government in 1953, or because iraq has started two wars with us since 1990, or because afghanistan invaded us in 2001, or because pakistan is sending pilotless drones to bomb us in the middle of the night. is this not akin to the abusive husband or parent who, because of their actions, can never trust their wife or child. we victimize, and then distrust those on the receiving end of our actions. better yet, we paint ourselves as the perpetual victim. 9/11, perhaps the equivalent of one week of our 7 plus years in iraq, and a crime that our own government likely had more to do with than iraq ever did, becomes the only crime with us the only victim. at last, we americans have our own holocaust that we can use to excuse whatever brutality we decide to partake in. ain't that grand?

obama met with the saudi king. and then told us how important it is for the muslim world to embrace democracy. out there, no? and no one laughs. we fund egypt and saudi arabia, as we bomb iraq and afghanistan. perhaps iraq isn't quite undemocratic enough. maybe that's the problem. if they were only more like egypt. you are democratic if you listen to us. if not, pack your bags, because your house may turn to dust.

so, obama salutes reagan with a statue. malcolm x's birthday was a couple of weeks ago, but i don't recall any salutes from the big o. perhaps if he were still looking for a gig in the south side of chicago, but he's in the white house now. for that matter, o always dug the horrendous ronaldo, mentioning him often as a hero of his. obama recently said that reagan helped return our nation to a state of optimism. he made us feel good again. well, just who did he make feel good? the poor of central america? the sandanistas? welfare mothers? people in mental institutions? no one makes everyone feel optimistic. the bombing of hiroshima made american servicemen optimistic that the war would soon end, but tended to make the average cat in hiroshima quite the pessimist.

perspective is everything.

and the big o has the same perspective of his pale peers, liberal cheerleading to the contrary.
