US Expands Pakistani Drone-Strike Zone
more than 30 U.S. strikes have killed about 300 people, including mid-level al Qaeda members, according to reports from Pakistani officials, residents and militants.
residents, i take it, are civilians. mid level al qaeda members, i take it, are members of al qaeda with little to no power. and i'm not quite sure what a militant is, but i do know that many of my heroes, such as che and malcolm, were known to be "militants." as a response, surely 300 american residents, "mid level army officials and soldiers" and various american "militants" should be sacrificed to pilotless pakistani drone attacks. it's only fair, no?
U.S. officials say success in Afghanistan is impossible without tackling militant enclaves in northwest Pakistan, where Taliban battling Western forces rest, regroup and train, and al Qaeda plots violence.
why do we want to "succeed" in afghanistan? what does that mean? i suppose it means that we will blow it up to such an extent that opposition to our imperial policies will lessen. that, however, is not my definition of what success will look like there. to me, reparations would look like success. an apology would look like success. an international peace keeping force would look like success. building up the water system would look like success. building decent homes would look like success. bombs for peace does not look like success. strangely, it seems to resemble war.
the moral is that we get to determine who to bomb. we can fly drones over the sovereign territory of other nations, but they can't do the same to us. we can bomb their electrical grids, their bridges, their tv stations, their schools, their houses of worship, and their hospitals. those are all examples of democracy building and fighting for freedom, but when they fight back against such attacks, they become terrorists and militants. yes, my friend, the world is quite upside down. we bomb their schools and claim to bring them education. we bomb their houses of worship and claim to bring them freedom of religion. we drop bombs on them and then call them terrorists.
and then we put on the tv.
and start the whole thing over the following day.
