they told me that booker ervin's record was heavy, but when i picked it up, it seemed to weigh the same as all my other albums. yes, the fact that the record tells me "you don't know what love is" is somewhat offensive. when i saw that title, i figured booker would tell me what it was that i didn't know, but the man didn't say a word. instead, he proceeded to play a sax solo. while the man may have sax appeal, his display in no way allowed me to find out what love is. and is it not just a wee bit arrogant on his part to assume my ignorance on the subject? i suppose i will kloss booker off my list of favorite reed men, but since his name isn't reed, this shouldn't bother him too much. perhaps it is just that i have been moody lately. james tells me i need to relax, and maybe even take in that great broadway show, "lay back and read," but they tell me the actors could have phoned it in. if i only had a car, son, then i may not be johnny on the spot, but as it is, there will be no show tonight for me. besides, the onion soup down the street is murder, and since i'm not singing, i might as well go for it. for that matter, the food is very good, especially the soup. after i eat it, i may even construct a bomb with a baby at the edge of it. but then, federal agents may come to my door, and since i don't know anybody in pakistan, i would rather that not happen. man, sometimes i just want to chuck the whole thing, but how many times can a man turner his head pretending he just doesn't see? for you see, i am bold and bright, but not bald, and yet, there must be hope for me, for i too sing america. in fact, i sing danny boy with an irish brogue. and why is it that latinos have accents and irish people have brogues? for i am the darker brother, as i spent a weekend at the beach. one day, i'll sit at the table and grow strong. for the moment, i am a weakling who can barely carry my work bag. anywhere a worker is fighting for his rights, you will find me. that is because i will be unemployed. if a police officer is beating someone up, you'll find me there. in fact, i will probably be the one getting beaten up. america, i am the scottsboro boys, and i am also boys to men. in truth, it's so hard to say goodbye to yesterdays, but it's just as hard to say hello to tomorrow. furthermore, i said fuck you to last year, but he didn't reply. man, the new edition of this blog is really n'sync. it may even make me an american idol. i repeat, i am bold and bright, but not bald, and james tells me that only the baldwin. of course, he told me that in giovanni's room, when i felt that he should have told it on the mountain. of course, he was a no name in the street, but if piri thomas could take a stroll down these mean streets, despite being a manchild in the promised land, than i figured that all souls, including baldwin, could have done the same. like geoffrey, he spent some time in canada, as he got tired of handling the fist stick knife gun that is the american experience. like ike, i heard he settled in quebec, but ended up having a freddie roach problem in the apartment he lived in. milt, i would give you a hinton where he lived, but that would be off bass, and not upright.

so, an iraqi reporter threw a pair of shoes at bush, and if convicted, will get at least two years in prison. after doing the act, he was severely beaten. i say bravo to this man, and i support the thousands who have taken to the streets to demand his release. this was an act of courage, and should be lauded. it also acts to show the comparative cowardice of our own mainstream media, who have not once challenged bush in any way. this man should be freed immediately. it is bush who should be imprisoned. it is bush, and the thousands who carried out his policies of imperial war, who should be charged with criminal acts. i thank this gentlemen for reminding us, that to some extent, individuals still have power. to some extent, we can still resist. we can condemn criminal acts, and oppose them, even if it means that we will pay a price. now, where are the americans, in and out of the media, who will not allow our politicians to give speeches without being confronted with our opposition? where are the people who are willing to go to the white house, to the pentagon, to fox news, and to the defense plants, in order to disrupt their operation? who among us will call the system for what it is? not in a classroom, not on a blog, not in a nod to a coworker, not in a tirade to a loved one, but in a way that directly challenges power?
