a hero is something more than a sandwich

Muntadar al-Zaidi, the Iraqi journalist who hurled his shoes at former President Bush, has had his prison sentence reduced from three years to one year. Zaidi called Bush "a dog" and threw the shoes as a "farewell kiss" from the victims of the US invasion. A new opinion poll finds that 62% of Iraqis consider him a hero. So do we.

and so do i. "a farewell kiss?" awesome. this is what it's all about. enough of that "write a letter to your local paper" crap. this is action, symbolic and real at the same time. a fine example of monkey warfare. congrats, al zaidi.

one more thing. i just thought of how before each celtic game, they salute someone with a "heroes among us" award. it's usually a local person who has done some good deed. though he's not local, i nominate al zaidi for the award.

i won't hold my breath looking for his face before today's game.
