obama is going to cure aids

yes, but who is going to cure his aides? robert, let the gates swing open, and let freedom rear it's luther head. ron, this is an artest for all of us, but one that we need to van gogh through. and though vin doesn't have a cent to his name, i still prefer him to vincent. well, you diego your way, and i'll go mine.

you just keep going, because what else are you to do. but, is this it? i mean, just get up, put on your pants, catch the bus, do your job, and pay the bills? and then do it all over again? now that obama is the president, surely none of us will have to suffer through the dead end of labor. before long, that guaranteed income will be upon us, and a saintly state of leisure will envelope us, all thanks to the big o. i will say this however. shortly after reagan took power, he crushed the air traffic controllers, telling them they had to go back to work or be dismissed. obama, on the other hand, supported the workers in chicago who had overtaken their recently closed factory. not long after obama made this statement, the workers reached a settlement with the company. so yes, words do matter.

but, to all those people who feel change is on the way, i ask you, what are you smoking? are we supposed to feel good that obama will use his full name at the inaugural, as all presidents before him have done? is this a "victory" for the muslim world? is it just me, or are we completely existing on a level of symbols? mobutu was named mobutu; as far as i know, this fact saved not a one of his victims. the issue is not whether his middle name is hussein, but whether he will lead a government that stops killing men named hussein. enough of the politics of symbols..."a march on selma, a wall fell in berlin..." get the fuck out of here. "a miles session at columbia, fellini makes a film in italy, richard wright moves to france. a man pulls out his penis in new jersey, a dog barks in ohio." cliches, symbols, smiles. but, where is the food, the health care, the peace? what good will it do the world that the man in charge of the government that attacks the powerless has a kenyan father? while we shed tears of joy, others will shed blood, and will be buried under our bombs.

if their is economic crisis, how do people afford a vacation to the bahamas and a trip to italy? how can they afford a second home? cc sabathis was just signed by the yankees, an eight year deal worth a total of 161 million. where is his crisis, and where is the crisis for an organization that can afford him? there are no ball players in haiti making 160 million dollars. there is crisis, and there is poverty. if these people are going through a crisis, they are most certainly not going through poverty. their lives won't change. the thing is, a country doesn't go through anything; certain people in that country go through things. certain people suffer. certain people lost their jobs. certain people can't pay their rent or mortage. certain people don't have health care. these people are not bill gates, or warren buffet, or that guy who just got back from the bahamas. it doesn't make them evil, but then again, no one is ever at fault in this country. no one is guilty. we all have the best of intentions. we all mean well. we fight for freedom. we work hard for our money. we love our kids. we are generous with our family. we are innocent, as we fly to our destinations and spend weekends at our summer home on the beach. yes, there are wars going on, wars that are prosecuted with our tax dollars, but the beaches are so lovely in the west indies! who has the time to think negative thoughts? there are people starving in philly, and baltimore, and especially on those islands with the lovely beaches, but hey, you work hard, and you deserve to spend those hard earned thousands while others dig through trash cans and clean your hotel rooms. for you are living the dream. hey, you haven't hurt anyone. you mean well. you would never say the n word. you probably even voted for obama, and may well employ a few blacks at the business you own. of course, the street you live on will be rather white, though bill cosby's sister or grover washington's widow may live close by. you may see a decent movie now and then, perhaps even enjoy michael moore for how he tells it like it is. your children are open minded, whatever that means. they too are likely happy obama won. everyone is happy, for america has shown its growth. we can all hold hands now, and sing spirituals. for at last we are free; free to travel to island nations and sit on the beaches of these islands, beaches that a vast majority of the people who live on the islands, will never be able to use. but this is no problem, for though you are white and they are black, it's ok, for you never say the n word and you voted for obama. you may even own an alicia keys album, or think beyonce is a beautiful woman. in your youth, you probably listened to motown, and perhaps even found belafonte and dorothy dandridge attractive. so what if black men take your bags at the hotel and black women clean your rooms? they musn't be angry with you, for you too are in crisis.

we are all in it together.

crisis has no class or color.

no, but poverty does.
